Assignment 5

                                                       Final Summary Report

In Perspective, I aimed to imagine new worlds from the eyes of animals and contrast them from our human perception from a camera lens. I created lens distortion in order to immerse the viewer into the space I created, almost like an IMAX theater. I also altered the colors and brightness, in order to capture what kind of world that animal might be seeing. In contrast, when shooting from the human perspective, almost nothing was changed. I did my best to create smooth and consistent transitions to help maintain the flow of the piece.
Conceptually, I intended Perspective to show humanity’s static, single point of view. To put it in more simple terms, we are often so caught up in our own world that we forget about the millions of others out there to explore and imagine. The single and normal perspective of the camera is ,of course ,in the human’s eye, while the specific points of view for each animal shows the fun  and intrigue in looking through another lens. The beginning and ending sequences also are of big conceptually significance. A new day dawns as the screen opens up, and you begin your walk of life. Throughout your life, you should go out, see and experience a great many things, from a great many perspectives other than your own. Sometimes, life can be as short as this two minute video, so there’s no time to waste. Because before you know it the dawn starts to fade at the end of the film and that it.

In a way, this film was born out of my desire to have no regrets at the end. I want to see it all.

Final Project Summary

Below is my final project Perspective in which I captured footage of various animals on campus and then shot the video from their perspective,  or rather how I imagined their perspective to be.  When I first started this project, I was at a loss of what to do. So I  started taking random footage from all around campus to see if it'll spark anything, luckily it did.

To put the point of my piece into one sentence:
We are often so consumed in our own world that we forget to imagine another's.

Questions:
My main concern is with the audio,  do you think it needs something more? Does it need more smoothing?
Please let me know what else you think in the comments.

Rush Paper

Whenever something new and fresh comes out, there are always those who resent it's coming, particularly those who are being affected in a very Luddite fashion. We've talked about how the coming of the camera, turned the traditional art world on it's head. In addition, as a child of the digital era, I am reminded constantly by my elders, that all this technology is distracting me from what is real and right in front of me. This article also reminded me that even an industry as digital and up to date as film, has been affected, as more and more CGI is being placed into films, reducing the need for creative special effects engineers. I just find it so interesting that although seek to progress out of the fear of being outdated, at the same time we are outdating ourselves in the process.

Appropriation Post

Upon reading this article I have to say that with the first few sentences it really grabbed me and sucked me in with it's rich and relatable diction. In this digital age, we are surrounded by a plethora of artistic muse for appropriation. In this aspects I love how they said that we are all "editors", which makes us feel important and illistrates the impact we can have on the world with our art.

Wolf Essay

After reading the essay by Wolf, I felt like i got a door way into the past and into the coming future. I got a look at the birth of photography and its evolution to what it is today. I felt some nostalgia when Wolf began to talk about the Kodac cameras, it gave me flash backs of my parents handing me and my sister each a camera whenever we went to an amusement park, and we'd go nuts. I began to see how crucial the Kodac era was to the progression of photography. As crazy kids, (by no means photographers) we didnt really care about camera angle or depth, so we just ended up with a hodgepodge of awkwardly shot photographs with heads cut off, tilted shots, and red eyes. The photographers of today now make these ideas a purposeful common practice to produce more interesting photographs. I just really found that amusing😆

Wangechi Mutu

In class, we watched this video by the collage artist Wangechi Mutu and there were a great many things that she said that stuck with me. As I am white, I had no trouble connecting with the films and media that I saw growing up. But Mutu reminded me of the fact that in other parts of the world this is not the case; she, who grew in Kenya, could not relate as well to the films and media coming from the west because there was next to no representation of who she was, all the actors and models were predominantly white and going through situations that had very little to do with her life.
As an artist, she says that the purpose of her works is to represent the body and feelings of people like her, people who are not represented often and when they are, they're misrepresented. That really struck a cord with me, because as of now, I have no purpose in my art besides the fact that I find joy in doing it. It just kind of makes me think, "Can I have a purpose like that, in art, in life?”
Another thing that I found meaningful was the fact that in her art, she chooses the most common everyday things to represent common everyday people, who in part not commonly shown every day. That in it of its self is a statement that is challenging the viewer to see the people in front of them and I mean really see them.

My First Animation Ever

Good morning all,
A little something about me, I haven't quite delved into the world of digital media as of yet, I mean, like most people out there, I've used various Adobe software to create flyers and videos for assignments and what not. But nothing on a large scale and nothing really good enough to show.

Another little fact about me, I have a great fascination and desire to do animation.
So I am going to show you my first ever animation I made a few years ago, as this is the only piece of digital media I have to offer. This was done simply with a pencil, paper and a camera and despite how smudgy and shifty it looks, I'm really proud of it. So enjoy!

The blog doesn't support the file size.😅
